Indigenous Wisdom with Aunty Munya Andrews and Ally Carla Rogers

Aunty Munya Andrews (right) with Ally Carla Rogers, Co-Directors of Evolves Communities

Nungamaladi - – that's 'hello' in Bardi language.

As the oldest living culture in the world, we know that we have a lot to learn from Australian Aboriginal wisdom and Dreamtime. It’s this wisdom that has informed the way Aunty Munya Andrews and Ally Carla Rogers, Co-Directors of Evolve Communities and Co-Authors of Practical Reconciliation - Strengthening Relationships for All Australians in 7 Easy Steps - approach their mission to inspire 10 million Allies, creating a kinder, more inclusive Australia.

Aboriginal Elder, Aunty Munya Andrews is a Bardi woman originally from the Kimberley region of Western Australia. She has wide-ranging experience in Indigenous matters, community empowerment and the law.

Steeped in Aboriginal cultural laws and traditions, she is a strong advocate of culturally appropriate ways of working with Aboriginal people and their communities. Despite growing up socially disadvantaged, Aunty Munya holds a degree in anthropology, a degree in law and is an accomplished author, educator and sought after speaker.

Renowned for her intellectual prowess and sharp mind, Aunty Munya is forwarded by Melbourne University as a ‘leading Australian thinker’.

Carla Rogers is an award-winning program designer, facilitator and community engagement specialist. Despite being non-Indigenous, she grew up with a strong connection to Country and longing to get closer to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture.

Together they bring a wealth of wisdom, lived experience, authentic cultural knowledge and successful black and white partnership on practical reconciliation, allyship and strengthening relationships, belonging and connection for all Australians.

Together they share a vision and values of a kinder, more inclusive Australia.

Forgiveness, Compassion and the Capacity to Put Yourself First to Authentically Serve Others with Sue McDonnell, Executive & Team Leadership Coach

Life is messy and despite the enthusiasm, excitement and energy we generate to get up and show up, living an authentic, courageous and compassionate life is not easy.

Sue McDonnell is an Executive and Team Leadership coach who helps senior executives to transform themselves through coaching, team development, energetic alignment and psychotherapy.  She’s a generous, compassionate and transparent leader who is passionate removing judgement to be kinder with ourselves (and each other) and having the courage to be vulnerable in the way we live, work and lead.

Join me for a deeply authentic conversation about what it takes to be real in a world where wearing a mask is the norm, forgiveness in the face of the unforgivable, the relationship between trust and forgiveness, compassion in action, having a sense of humour and removing the significance out of the challenges and trauma in life, being perfectly imperfect and responsible for our own transformation and having the courage to be curious.

Sue’s humble and truth telling view on life is refreshing and as she so eloquently points out “you can’t lead transformation if you’re not being transformation, transformation takes having a real, raw and honest look within ourselves and having the courage to ask questions about ‘why am I here’, ‘how am I really feeling’, ‘what is going on in my life right now’, ‘am I living the life I want to be living’ and how does all of that play out in the world around me.

“A lot of people aren’t as self-aware as they could be and guiding them as they dive deep into this journey has been a privilege for me. Awareness is the first step in any journey, then of course, as a leader understanding your authentic self and how you impact others is very important, the leadership shadow you cast is far and wide”

An Entrepreneurs Mindset with 2x Guinness World Record Holder and Author of The Humble Hero, Liam Zollo

Liam Zollo is a former 2x Guinness World Record Holder, International Rugby league representative, and serial entrepreneur who started businesses in the fitness industry, podcasting industry, and E-commerce.

In 2017 Liam authored “The Humble Hero - A guide to self awareness”, a story of how a young man struggling in moments of loss and failure, meets unassuming heroes that teach him critical lessons to succeed in life and become a humble hero.

Liam has been knocked down more times than he can count; and while the journey hasn’t been easy, his story is filled with invaluable lessons from what he calls ‘humble heroes’ - heroes that made him strong enough to break two world records, represent an International Rugby League team, own a successful fitness coaching business and travel the world.

Join me on The Uncharted Leader this week as I talk with Liam about how to use an entrepreneurs mindset to advance despite adversity.

Liam teaches us that we can all become Humble Heroes when we take that giant leap of faith to explore ourselves as we explore life. He inspires us to have the courage to ask for help and listen to the wise counsel of the people that have walked the path before us, to live a life we can feel proud of.

People who search for success often think they need to outdo others, dominate the competition and be better to succeed. This isn’t true. We can all be a hero and humble.

Courageously Live Your Truth with Sheila V, Spiritual Teacher, Mentor and Intuition Expert

“A leader is someone who courageously lives their truth” - Sheila V

Do you wish you could access your intuition and courageously live a life of purpose? Sure you do. We may not admit it publicly to the world, but (at some level) every one of us has a desire to live a meaningful life - to have our life be meaningful, leave a legacy, have an impact and make a difference.

As for whether we are clear about it, present to it or living our life congruent with it, is an entirely different matter. So the real question here, is not whether you have one or not, it’s where do you currently see yourself?

Are you clear about your purpose? Do you reject the idea that having a life purpose even exists? Do you have a clear purpose but maybe your life is incongruent - meaning your vision, values, mission, goals, work and life are not in direct alignment with that purpose, or perhaps the results you’re producing are not congruent?

Whether you’re a believer or not, agree with me or not, there is absolutely one thing I know to be true - a saying that resonated powerfully with me after decades of addiction absorbing the Oprah Winfrey show - we all have a purpose, the question is whether you’re choosing to discover it, own it and honour it.

Join me on this weeks episode of The Uncharted Leader as I speak with Spiritual Teacher and Intuition Expert Sheila V about her journey of intelligently accessing her own intuition, overcoming perfection and the steps she took to walk away from a successful corporate career and follow her calling and purpose in life.

Sheila is the author of Brave: Courageously Live Your Truth - a comprehensive spiritual guide book for the conscious corporate leader. She holds an MBA and was a Commercial and Finance Director in the book publishing industry before courageously following her calling as psychic medium and transformational coach.

Combining spiritual wisdom with executive coaching, Sheila is a cutting-edge leader in the movement towards consciousness spirituality in the corporate arena. She’s studied with some of the world’s most renowned spiritual teachers, has featured in Thrive Global, Sydney Morning Herald, Body + Soul, CEO World Magazine, New Idea, Women’s Agenda, CFO Australia and appeared on the Australian Television show Psychic TV as a professional psychic medium.

Learn how to listen to your intuition, follow your soul purpose and bravely live your truth”” - Sheila V

Massive Transformative Purpose with Emilie Sydney-Smith, CEO at ExO Works

Emilie_adaptation-820x461.png

While most traditional companies are trying to survive, with $3.5 trillion wasted on corporate innovation in the last decade, the Big Techs have created $7 trillion in value.

What are the more traditional companies missing? It’s called a “Massive Transformative Purpose”.

Emilie Sydney-Smith, the CEO at ExO Works, is helping large companies like Procter & Gamble, Rio Tinto, HP and BHP emulate the world’s fastest growing companies, prepare for the future and profit from 10X disruptive innovation.

Proud to be in her dream job, Emilie helps companies realise how profitable it can be to do good and turning companies from adopting purpose from a reactive position of weakness into a fundamental driver of success.

Join me on The Uncharted Leader as Emilie shares about her journey as a leader, her dream job and massive transformative purpose to help companies maximise the benefit of technology to the world through large companies.

“My purpose is to maximise the net benefit of technology to the world through large companies - Net benefit because there will always be nefarious uses and unintended consequences, so we need to proactively get as much benefit as well; Large because the improvements can be made at scale through huge distribution and partnership channels, and access to capital” - Emilie Sydney-Smith

What makes this your dream job?

  • Most companies attempt growth projects, training and culture change separately, but we learned those three goals only work if they are done together, reinforcing each other. It is exhilarating to see it work in practice during our 10 week sprints where we coach around 20 people to imagine how different the future will be and design initiatives that solve problems at least tenfold better than the status quo approach. In doing so, they learn to transform the business and can’t unsee how to be future-thinkers.

  • We inspire the people we coach within our client companies to the point that they often say it is the best experience of their working life and like getting an MBA in 10 weeks.

  • Most people are perplexed by why the world’s fastest growing companies are so successful or how to go about bringing in 4th Industrial Revolution processes and technologies.  We make that clear, easy and fun, so that people feel like really empowered, natural innovators.

  • We turn the theory or “window dressing” of becoming a purpose-driven company into reality.  We help companies realise how profitable it can be to do good, thereby turning the companies from adopting purpose from a reactive position of weakness into a fundamental driver of success.  We have the track record to back that up.

The Progressive Law Movement with Karen Finch

Copy of 7R2A2534.jpg

Karen Finch is an inspirational powerhouse! She is an ambassador of the progressive law movement and as the Founder of a startup herself, Karen is a strong supporter of the Australian startup ecosystem.

In addition to her non-practicing lawyer role as the CEO of Legally Yours, Karen is Vice President of the Australian Legal Tech Association, Legal Tech Editor for Idea Spies, Law Reference Advisory Member at CQ University Law School and a Lead Organiser of the Silicon Beach Australia startup community.

Join me on today’s episode of The Uncharted Leader for an electrifying conversation about some of the challenges Karen faced in her own journey in law and how she decided to turn adversity into opportunity.

What is your vision and what is the problem you’re helping solve?

Lawyers traditionally charge by the hour, often presenting the bill at the conclusion of their services, or worse, sending you a ‘surprise‘ invoice you weren’t expecting because they have not been clear about their costs upfront. We believe there is a more progressive way in a world that is ever changing.

We created Legally Yours to give people access to a range of lawyers who provide agreed upfront quoting and deliver their services in a way that is convenient for their clients. Our vision is to be the number one platform for legal services, providing the community with valuable connections when they need it the most.

We also support lawyers who are delivering legal services differently.

We do this by providing education and information sessions aimed at enabling their firms to thrive; connecting them with a community of like-minded lawyers to cross-refer business and recruit curious and innovative law students, law graduates and early stage career lawyers for internships and roles; and we promote their profile and service offering so they can build trusted, long lasting relationships with clients.

Why is this so important to you?

I was a teenager when my parents lost their business and our family home. Having experienced first hand the devastation lawyers can cause to their clients from a lack of communication and poor service, I vowed to create change in industry so no client would ever suffer like my family suffered.

A leader is someone who inspires others by their actions, remains strong in the face of adversity, and is committed to leaving the world a better place after they are gone

What’s one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced and what did you learn?

The first 3 years after Legally Yours launched was tough.  Trying to change the industry was way more of a challenge than I envisioned. I thought I could convince lawyers to change the way they delivered their services and how they communicated their value because of the 70-80% of business they were missing because clients were too afraid, too confused or simply didn’t know how to find a lawyer.

This was not the case! I faced rejection after rejection, predominantly from white, middle aged male partners who told me I should just give up and do something else, as they would never move away from billable hours because ‘it was too profitable and their clients loved it’.

When I asked, ``How do you know?”, their response ‘they pay my bills’ was disheartening.

I realised I needed to hold on tight to my convictions, values and passion, and even though I often felt like giving up, I knew that if I could just convince some lawyers to practice differently, I could make a huge impact on the accessibility to legal services.

What’s one of your greatest accomplishments?

Launching Legally Yours.  I’m incredibly proud of the community of lawyers and legal professionals we’ve gathered across Australia to support them in their mission to deliver legal services beyond the billable hour; and the 100s of clients we’ve helped with the legal advice they needed without the shock of a massive bill and a lack of customer service.
